According to local people, Chu Dang Ya in Jrai language, Chu means mountain, Dang Ya means wild ginger root. For a long time, Chu Dang Ya volcano has been known as the paradise of wild sunflowers. When coming to this location, visitors will be immersed in the wild, charming scene of wild sunflowers and the amazing beauty of Chu Dang Ya volcano.

In this season, the yellow color of wild sunflowers intermingles with the green of the fields, creating an attractive beauty for the highlands. The brilliant wildflowers in the volcanic area are like golden suns, causing visitors to stop to admire and take souvenir photos.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Suong (Pleiku City, Gia Lai) said: “Even though I am a resident of Gia Lai, every November I also arrange work to go to the volcano to see wild sunflowers. Wild sunflowers grow naturally here, covering the volcano. The flower color is beautiful yellow, like a sunflower.

“I hope the government continues to propagate and protect the wild beauty that wild sunflowers and Chu Dang Ya volcano bestow. Thanks to this potential, we can promote more cultural products and handicrafts such as brocade and wickerwork for people here,” Ms. Suong added.

In order to make it convenient for tourists to travel and visit, Chu Pah District People’s Committee has built roads around the foot of the mountain, leading to the top of the volcano. When visitors stand at the top of the volcano, they can admire countless colorful wildflowers, interspersed with straight sweet potato fields planted by indigenous people.

As part of the series of Gia Lai Culture – Tourism Week activities in 2023, on the evening of November 10, Chu Pah District People’s Committee opened the Chu Dang Ya Volcano – Wildflower Festival in 2023. The festival takes place for 3 days. (from November 10 to November 12) at the communal house area of ​​Ia Gri village right at the foot of Chu Dang Ya mountain.

Within the framework of the festival, there are many unique activities for visitors to experience such as gong performances, recreating new rice worshiping rituals, basket weaving performances, brocade weaving, wooden statue carving, and making musical instruments and utensils. agricultural production tools, competing in traditional sports such as stick pushing, tug of war, stilt walking, displaying local cuisine, and conquering Chu Dang Ya mountain peak.

Within the festival grounds, the People’s Committee of Chu Pah district, Gia Lai arranged many souvenir booths, local specialties, and typical rural agricultural products for tourists such as coffee, pepper, wild bananas, and wine. Jelly, dried bamboo shoots… These products are all agricultural products of households or agricultural cooperatives in the district.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thanh, Vice Chairman of Chu Pah District People’s Committee, Head of the Festival Organizing Committee, said: “For a long time, Chu Dang Ya volcano has been associated with wild sunflowers. To promote this potential, every year the district organizes the Chu Dang Ya Volcano and wild sunflower festival.

The festival aims to honor wild sunflowers, a flower with a simple, pure, and brilliant beauty in the middle of the vast plateau. Integrated into the festival, there are also cultural activities, folk arts, sports and tourism promotion, and a safe agricultural market. Thereby creating a premise to build typical tourism products of Chu Pah district in particular and Gia Lai province in general.”

From November 11 to November 19, Gia Lai province will organize Gia Lai Culture and Tourism Week 2023. Among them, there is a Gong Cultural Festival event taking place on November 11 and 12 at Dai Doan Ket Square. with the theme “Gia Lai – Cultural colors”.

This will be a performance full of sound and color by over 1,000 artisans from 5 Central Highlands provinces. Among them, Gia Lai has 17 delegations from districts, towns and cities with over 870 artisans and 140 artisans from 4 delegations from the provinces: Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Kon Tum, Lam Dong.
