The ranking of top places to avoid the heat shows that beach tourism is a popular trend among domestic tourists in the face of the scorching sun. Besides, mountainous areas with cold climates like Da Lat are also popular.

Mr. Vu Ngoc Lam, Director of Agoda Vietnam, said search data shows the resilience and adaptability of Vietnamese tourists in the face of harsh weather conditions. Prioritizing sea and mountain destinations shows the need to seek comfort and rest to avoid the heat, while also affirming the important role of flexible domestic travel solutions.

“Many tourists choosing coastal and mountainous destinations not only shows their current travel habits but also contributes to shaping the overall travel trend during the summer peak period,” Mr. Lam said.

According to Mr. Lam, Vietnamese tourists still have strong interest in domestic destinations, in the context that many people choose to travel abroad to avoid high domestic airfares.

Previously, on the holiday of April 30 – May 1, VnExpress recorded that beach tourist destinations had outstanding numbers of visitors and revenue, with many places seeing a sudden increase in visitor numbers. In particular, beaches in Ba Ria – Vung Tau attracted about 626,000 visitors, an increase of 25% over the same period, with room capacity reaching more than 90% of the entire province. The number of visitors to Vung Tau City alone accounts for 46% of the total number of visitors of the whole province, an increase of 38% compared to last year.

Also during the period of hot weather throughout the country, tourists seek places to avoid the heat such as the mountains and plateaus. The places of Sa Pa (Lao Cai), Da Lat (Lam Dong) or Mang Den (Kon Tum) are crowded but the proportion of guests staying is not as high as in coastal cities.

In October 2023, market research company Outbox Company based in Ho Chi Minh City also announced the ranking of the most popular domestic destinations for Vietnamese tourists in the third quarter, Ba Ria – Vung Tau also topped the table. In the first two quarters of last year, this destination also ranked first thanks to its convenient location and proximity to Ho Chi Minh City. Ba Ria Vung Tau is rated by tourists as having “beautiful landscapes and reasonable costs suitable to the tastes of current Vietnamese people”.
