Mang Den town (Kon Plong district, Kon Tum) is located at an altitude of about 1,200m above sea level. The daytime temperature here is 16-18 degrees Celsius, at night it drops lower, with fog and cold air spreading all over the road. Mang Den has pristine mountains and forests, interspersed with beautiful lakes and waterfalls. In particular, there are thousands of cherry apricot trees throughout this town.

Every Tet holiday and spring, tourists from many places flock to Mang Den to admire the blooming cherry blossoms. This year, cherry blossoms bloom about a month later. However, the number of cherry blossom trees increased, dyeing the whole land of Mang Den pink.

On weekends, tourists flock to Mang Den to admire and “hunt” for themselves the most beautiful photos next to the cherry blossoms.

This year, tourists often go to Mang Den Central Park, Dak Ke Lake, Dam Bri Lake, Bell Tower, along Highway 24, Pa Sy waterfall, 37-household area…

When she saw photos of cherry blossoms flooding social networks, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh (Pleiku city, Gia Lai) traveled hundreds of kilometers with her friends to go photo hunting on the weekend.

Ms. Thanh shared: “Every year, on New Year’s Eve, I often invite my friends to go to Mang Den to take photos and watch the cherry blossom season. This year, the flowers bloom later but the amount of flowers is the most and most beautiful compared to every year. Going all over Mang Den town and Mang Canh commune, we can see cherry blossom trees blooming.”

Cherry blossoms often grow in mountains and forests, where the climate is cold and humid. The flower has 5 gracefully arranged petals like wild peach blossoms but has a gentle pink color, highlighted by the dark red color of the pistil in the middle. In winter, the tree loses all its leaves and after more than 2 weeks, the cherry blossoms bloom. The flower forest blooms for about 15-20 days.

Mr. Pham Van Thang, Vice Chairman of Kon Plong District People’s Committee, said Kon Plong currently has about 300,000 cherry apricot trees. According to the policy of the Kon Tum Provincial Party Committee, from now until 2025, the district will build and campaign to plant 1 million trees.

Recently, Kon Plong district has launched many campaigns with unions to join hands to plant cherry apricots on main roads. Because it is a forest tree, many individuals also plant it on hillsides to green up bare hills.

In the immediate future, the district determines to concentrate planting in Mang Den town and Mang Canh and Hieu communes. The environmental services center and district seedling center are researching more new varieties of cherry blossoms that bloom earlier to serve tourists to admire during the New Year. After having the seeds, the center will distribute the seeds to people to replicate the cherry apricot growing model.
